SPEEDWAY- RAIN COMES TO WEBBS AID

Veteran Christchurch Speedway driver Dick Webb would be one of just a few of the 42 entrants for this years New Zealand TQ Midget Car Championship who was happy to see rain last weekend.

Webb, a two time national TQ Champion failed to qualify for the finals after an ignition problem saw him forced to the sidelines in each of his three qualifying race starts last Friday night.

This see's him having to start off the back grid in the sixteen car field of the repecharge which was to have been held last Saturday night at the Xpress Printing House Ruapuna Speedway, however rain washed that show, and Sundays 'raindate' out giving him a chance to sort out the problem.

"We took the car out to Ellesmere on Monday and it ran well" said Webb who now goes into the event that has been rescheduled for Thursday night (January 21) with more confidence.

Only the first three placegetters in the repecharge progress to the finals and with fifteen cars starting in front of him Webb knows that the odds are stacked against him, but he has an added incentive.

"In twenty five different championships that I've raced in through the years I've never failed to qualify, and I don't want that to change. I'm going to have to go like hell!"

Webb returned to racing athis summer after a two year layoff specifically gearing his campaign towards the national event and says that "once youre in anything can happen, but i'm not in....yet."
