An Observers West Coast shed update part 2
A second weekend in Greymouth led to more workshops being investigated, and more rumors of cars selling locally, and others looking at new purchases. There is a lot of people keen to join the army at the moment, but I don’t think it’s for the exercise or the food. Time, as always, will tell

48gm - Dave "Gareth" Terris - Towbar Dave has big plans – so big they made him miss last season. Has brand new Rees chassis 2 nights away from the blasters, and a new bus to transport the racecar to finish. Also the odd trailer or two judging by the wheels. Talking of 2nd practice, but we heard that last year Bad Dave?? . Cautiously optimistic this year, and keen to teams race IF he can make the team.

73gm - Graeme Daily –The Dirty : Driver has the x Gaskin/Wooten rocket ship on a diet. Is converting from Land cruiser diff to Toyota diff, and has finished changing the seat for the car. A hard charger who will be quick when he makes the track this season. Was gutted to miss last year, and keen to get out for a skid this season. A good club man who helps out whenever the car can’t make it to the track.

31gm - Paul Ayres – Paul has traded up from last year’s copy to a one year old (racing anyway) chassis built by the Reade Family in Christchurch. Bought pretty bare, it has been gradually filled up, with only plumbing, wiring, and body mounting to go. Looks good with the body rake I reckon, and keen as mustard to test the new beast. Will make first practice, and looks sharp in white. To wing or not to wing, that is the question.

Gm -Craig and Lee Swinburn – The Swinnys have a sharp looking tri-rail all welded up and ready to go. Have completed the suspension fabrication, have firewall and bell housing sorted, Racetech sorted and have begun on the diff. The important part awaits - mounting for ride height and traction etc.The team is keen, but time is at a premium with business and family commitments.Would like to be at first practice, but more likely to make it after Christmas.

33gm - Jase Tasker – Pictured with Sponsor and Crew Chief G Stewart Contracting, the 33gm rat rod has had the big front end rebuild at the end of the season. Stood up to the bashing at the Westport last meeting of the season, and only needs a side rail sorted for the next season. 2nd on Season points despite missing second half shows how quick the car is. Needs two spares fronts and would then be an asset to the Teams cause. Can’t help but hit – anything. Another at first practice.

92gm – Steve Antmen – Worm has the x Wayne Wilding sky lab looking a picture. Only waiting on some paint for the rims and a Right rear, numbers, and he will be at first practice with the Hemi powered beast. Handled awesomely in its day, and with the 93 West Coast Champ behind the seat you know it’s going to be fast.

39gm -Graeme Stanton – Dar is talking of stockcar retirement, and to prove his point has bought a 38 ford stock as a rock cruiser.Had last season off, but has cut the bent side rail off with a new one ready to replace. The only way to sell it is to race it, so Dar might just have a couple of skids left in him yet. Will only sell to a Greymouth driver to keep the class numbers up, so good news there. Talk of a interested party, but time (or update part 3) will tell.

And a closing work in progress shot from after last update.
Out with the old… and the new, will that will be “in” when finished.
We have 6 more (and then maybe 1 or 2 pending activity in the buy or sell arena) for the final update. That’s relying on a couple of outside sources, so hopefully next week we should see the final installment on what’s happening in the stockcar class at Greenstone Park on the West Coast of the South Island
